Benue APC justifies Ortom meeting attendance, seeks wider support for TinubuĀ

The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Benue State has clarified allegations of anti-party activities within its fold, noting the chapter is open to collaborating with any political group or stakeholders who share a common commitment to the success of President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

The clarification comes amid public backlash against some APC stalwarts accused of attending a political meeting hosted at the residence of Chief Samuel Ortom, the immediate past Governor of Benue and leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in support of the second-term aspirations of President Tinubu.

In a statement to clarify its position on Monday, the Benue APC insisted it is open to any coalition of patriotic Nigerians and political groups, keying into Tinubu’s re-election agenda.

The statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary of the APC in Benue, Daniel Ihomun, said, ā€œThe APC believes that national development and the consolidation of the gains already being recorded under President Tinubu’s leadership require broad-based support that transcends party lines.ā€

The statement added, ā€œOur great party appreciates the ongoing developmental strides of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu across critical sectors of the Nigerian economy.

ā€œIn recognition of these achievements, the APC in Benue State will continue to mobilise the people of the state, irrespective of political affiliations, to support and vote for President Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

ā€œFor the avoidance of doubt, members of the All Progressives Congress in Benue State remain open to invitations from any political group, association, or stakeholders who share a common commitment to the success of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the realisation of his Renewed Hope Agenda.

ā€œThe APC remains confident that the Renewed Hope Agenda will continue to deliver meaningful progress and prosperity for Nigeria and its people.ā€

Some of the APC chieftains who attended the controversial meeting include: Dr Mathias Byuan, Executive Director (Housing Finance and Accounts), Federal Housing Authority Abuja; Chief Michael Kaase Aondokaa, SAN, former Attorney General of the Federation; Barr. Pius Akutah, PhD, Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, and Chief Sebastian Hon, SAN, DSSRS.
