On Tuesday 14 January, the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Dr Serigne Gueye Diop, received in audience the National Federation of Boulangers of Senegal. This strategic meeting has made it possible to deal with several major problems relating to the boulangerie sector, with the objective of establishing a dynamic of regulation and sustainable improvement. Among the issues addressed were the rise in production costs, regulatory constraints and the need to modernise professional practices. The two sides also exchanged views on the importance of effective regulation to regulate the activities of the sector and guarantee its viability. This meeting resulted in significant agreements, reflecting the common will to provide concrete solutions to the problems raised. These agreements are aimed at strengthening the competitiveness of bakers while respecting quality and food safety standards. The discussions also focused on the overall environment of the bakery sector and its role in achieving food sovereignty in Senegal. The Minister stressed the importance of developing local resources, particularly local cereals, in order to reduce dependence on imports and encourage a sustainable national production.
