(BPRW) Congressional Black Caucus Statement on Trump Travel Ban

Congressional Black Caucus Chair Yvette D. Clarke ( NY-09 ) and other members of the Congressional Black Caucus made the following statement:” President Trump’s proclamation to ban, block, and/or restrict the entry of people from 19 countries, many of which are predominantly Black and brown, is nothing more than a blatantly cruel and racist attempt to prevent some foreigners from accessing opportunities. The administration continues its age-old, terrible discipline of perpetuating home separation by erroneously labeling these people as terrorists and threats to our country. This declaration is unrelated to national protection. Instead, it is a culmination of the Trump Administration’s long-standing campaign against Black and brown people. His goals are to stoke anxiety, foster division, and vilify the vulnerable, many of whom are recovering from terrible injuries, seeking life-saving health care, or waited decades to be reunited with family members. Some are fleeing terrible systems in search of security and a better life in the United States. The Congressional Black Caucus met with Lionel Delatour, the country’s ambassador to Haiti, this week to explore the journey ban and other pressing issues, according to the Congressional Black Caucus. Many of these people have strong ties to the nations affected by this journey ban. People who have immigrated here from all over the world have built and fortified the basis of our nation from the beginning. Our variety permeates every aspect of society, and America is a true melting pot of mankind. It is just unacceptable that the Trump Administration continues to act on this principle, modify our shared history, and treat Americans and those we value dearly. People of good will must unite to oppose this racist restrictions, in particular. We can’t sit back and let President Trump continue to discriminate against these groups and threaten the very foundation of our country. We may remain fighting to ensure that this travel restrictions, which was defeated in court, is implemented. Enough is enough” .###
