(BPRW) Terence Blanchard is back at The Soraya to present the concert premiere of his two operas.

Terence Blanchard is set to return to The Soraya for the concert debut of his two operas. CHAMPION & FIRE SHUT UP IN MY BONES are notable excerpts from two operas created by composer and jazz trumpeter Terence Blanchard. In 2021, Blanchard achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Black composer to debut an original opera at the Metropolitan Opera. Fire Shut Up in My Bones made a significant impact globally, and in 2023, he followed up with another remarkable success, Champion. In partnership with Los Angeles Opera, The Soraya has commissioned a world premiere featuring excerpts from both operas, which will be performed by Blanchard himself. The American trumpeter and film composer heads his E-Collective and the Turtle Island Quartet, featuring baritone Justin Austin and soprano Adrienne Danrich. For over ten years, artists from Los Angeles have found a venue at The Soraya. They consistently excel across various seasons by showcasing original pieces, engaging in new collaborations, and reaching impressive new levels. The Soraya monitors emerging local artists while also supporting the established favorites in the area.
