The Chicago Justice Gallery at UIC will be hosting a book event titled “Liberation Stories,” featuring prominent communicators from the movement. Join us for an engaging evening of discussion, strategy, and storytelling with the editors and contributors of “Liberation Stories: Building Narrative Power for 21st-Century Social Movements.” This event will highlight youth activists, cultural strategists, and prominent figures in social justice communication. Hosted by the Social Justice Initiative at the University of Illinois Chicago and the Radical Communicators Network (RadComms), the event aims to celebrate the upcoming release of the book (New Press, June 2025). Attendees will hear from co-editors Shanelle Matthews and Marzena Zukowska, as well as contributing authors Rachel Jacoby, Tre Bosley, and Zaineb Mohammed. These activists and narrators have played a crucial role in molding critical political struggles of our era, including the enactment of significant gun safety legislation in Illinois and the development of youth-driven initiatives in Chicago’s South Side.
