British MPs reject a new national investigation into grooming gangs.

British Members of Parliament have voted against initiating a new national inquiry into grooming gangs. They dismissed the Conservatives’ proposal to mandate such an inquiry. The Tories’ proposal to amend the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill was rejected on Wednesday with 364 votes against 111, resulting in a majority of 253. The amendment aimed to mandate a statutory inquiry into grooming gangs, which the government declined, preferring to follow the recommendations from a 2022 report instead. According to DAILY POST, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch previously disagreed on whether a national inquiry into child sexual abuse by grooming gangs is necessary. Badenoch contended that, although there have been inquiries into child sexual abuse, none have specifically addressed the “rape gang scandal.” DAILY POST reminds us that over ten years ago, a child sexual abuse scandal revealed that gangs, mainly composed of Pakistani men, had groomed, trafficked, and assaulted young white girls. This issue has resurfaced in the political discussions in Britain, prompted by remarks from tech billionaire Elon Musk. Multiple media sources indicate that gangs of men raped and abused children while the authorities did not provide protection.
