Former Angel Broadcasting Network on-air personality, Okatakyie Afrifa, has reportedly been picked up by national security operatives, sparking wild reactions on social media.
According to reports, Afrifa was picked up on Wednesday, March 19. He was in custody for several hours and was released later in the day following intense public backlash.
Afrifa, who currently hosts the ‘For the Records’ show on YouTube and is a staunch critic of the NDC government, was allegedly picked up due to his political views. Days before his arrest, he had claimed that he was being followed by National Security Operatives.
Following his arrest, NPP activists exploded on social media. The party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, called for his release, as did minority leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin. Following the public callouts, National Security released Okatakyie and he’s currently a free man.
Netizens also had their own views on his arrest, with some calling Afrifa out for his views.
“Nobody should give him any attention—let him remain in custody for as long as possible. All he does is spew nonsense without facts,” one user wrote.
