The University of Professional Studies, Accra ( UPSA ), in its first year, has sanctioned thirteen first-year students for performing various examination malpractice violations in the first semester of the 2024/2020 academic year. The school’s Examination Committee made the decision at a meeting on Thursday, July 10, 2025.
The students have admitted to using their phones and organized notes in the examination room, copying from prohibited materials, and in one instance, swapping exam papers during the exam, according to a statement from the school. These steps were found to be in direct violation of Segment 4.4 of the 2018 version of the UPSA Undergraduate Students ‘ Book, which specifies the school’s guidelines for academic wrongdoing.
Depending on the nature of each infraction, the sanctions are different in intensity. Some students received level Zs for their test papers, while others received two semesters of isolation from the college. In the most severe cases, individuals were completely dismissed. For the recovery of confiscated mobile apps used during exams, a number of individuals have even received GHS100 fines.
Three individuals were disciplined for copying from test-taking notes and exchanging problem documents during the exams. Other French language exam subjects were discovered using wireless phones, which resulted in paper suspension and withdrawal. These measures, according to the committee, are intended to reinforce the university’s commitment to scientific integrity and to function as a caution to different students. The school’s Examination Committee has once more reiterated its zero tolerance policy against intellectual dishonesty and asked all students to abide by the rules and regulations governing the institution’s examinations. The listing of individuals who have been sanctioned has been made public in accordance with the school’s clarity plans.
This growth highlights the growing need for educational institutions to uphold tight standards in response to more and more attempts to undermine exam trustworthiness. The deeds of UPSA send a clear message that scientific misconduct will result in serious consequences. It continues to place itself as a center of excellence and professionalism.
