By-election: INEC awards Certificates of Return to the victorious candidates.  

On August 21, 2025, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) awarded Certificates of Return to seven newly elected officials from the National Assembly bye-elections that occurred on August 16, 2025. The ceremony was held at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja, where National Commissioners presented the certificates to the winners, who will serve in various constituencies within the Senate and House of Representatives. Mr. Kenneth Ukeagu, the National Commissioner overseeing the South East, handed the Certificate of Return to Mr. Nwachukwu Emmanuel Chibuzor of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the victor in the Anambra South Senatorial District bye-election. Additionally, Professor Rhoda Gumus provided Certificates of Return to Ikpea Joseph Igiagbe, the Senator-elect for Edo Central, and Igbinedion Omosede Gabriella, the House of Representatives member-elect for Ovia Southwest, both of whom are from the All Progressives Congress (APC). Professor Abdullahi Zuru, the National Commissioner for the North West, presented the certificate to Mukhtar Rabiu Garki, who won the Bubura/Garki constituency in Jigawa State, also a member of the APC. Kudu Haruna awarded a certificate to Joseph Bagudu, who was elected to represent the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency in Kaduna State as a member of the All Progressives Congress. Moreover, Professor Kunle Ajayi, the National Commissioner overseeing the South West, handed Certificates of Return to Elegbeji Adesola Yetunde Ayoola, who was elected for the Ikene/Shagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency in Ogun State, and Oyekunle Fola Sunday, elected for the Ibadan North Federal Constituency, both from the APC. The elected officials from the State Constituency bye-elections are set to receive their Certificates of Return from their respective state’s Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) on Friday, August 22, 2025.
