Chief of Staff to former President Muhammadu Buhari, Prof Ibrahim Gambari, has revealed that every government and president has cabals.
Speaking during an interview on ‘Politics Today’, a programme on Channels Television monitored by DAILY POST on Monday, Gambari said some cabals tend to tell the President not what he needs to know but what he needs to hear.
He was speaking on Buhari government’s legacy.
“A president can be as good as people are with him and support him. Loyalty which puts the love of country above their own personal interest.
“Every president had a cabal of a sort. You might call them inner circle or inner caucus. People that are close to them have some shared experiences. Some shared perception of the future and people they have known who can tell them to their face.
“Sadly, some cabals tell the president not what he needs to know but what he wants to hear. They exist in every government. Some are more influential than others while some are more faithful to the principal than the others.
“Sometimes, more powers are ascribed to these cabals than actually is the case because I know the so-called people who called cabals in the Buhari’s administration for the few years that I was with them.
“They knew their limitations with Buhari and they dared not push beyond that because everybody also knew that Buhari has what I call creative stubbornness something similar to late Obafemi Awolowo,” he said.
