NIGEL – Cambridge Football Club delivered a dominant performance against Black Scorpions, securing a 5-0 victory in their Hollywood Bets League clash.
The match, at Willowmore Stadium on March 8, saw Cambridge FC outclass their opponents with skill and relentless attacking play.
The Bridges boys started with confidence from the starting whistle. The team showed they would only be satisfied to walk away with a win. Kgotso Makhura scored the opening goal within 10 minutes.
A couple of minutes later, Njabulo Mhlongo tapped the ball into Benoni’s net. Cambridge kept dominating play and did not allow the Scorpions possession of the ball.
Makhura scored Cambridge’s third goal from a perfect cross from Njabulo Moagi. Nearing half-time, the Nigel boys scored their fourth goal. Lebohang Matshaba scored the goal, with the Benoni goalkeeper looking helpless, as the ball sailed into the back of the net.

The home team played with purpose in the second half after the coach made tactical changes to the team. Cambridge played with less energy in the second half by not attacking but only controlling the ball and possession.
Scorpions got an opportunity or two to score but squandered their chances.
The final score was when Bridges Oupa Junior Mbokazi put his name on the scorecard. Thereafter, Cambridge kept the ball in possession while winding down the clock.
“It was a wonderful display of football by the lads and it is becoming evident what we are doing in training is paying off. Most of the goals we scored are what we practised in training this week. Confidence is the key to obtaining positive results” said Cambridge coach John Mosia.
“We are appealing to companies in the Vosterkroon and Nigel area to come on board and make this community-based project part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSI) initiative. Cambridge FC as the club is a registered NPO,” said Cambridge FC club chairperson Ignatius Maphike.
