Capello Criticizes Juventus for Overlooking Huijsen’s Potential

Fabio Capello, the former coach of Real Madrid, has criticized Juventus for not recognizing the talent of Dean Huijsen, especially after his remarkable early displays for Real Madrid at the current Club World Cup. Huijsen, who joined Juventus in 2021 and was part of their youth academy, didn’t make his first-team debut until the 2023-24 season before going on loan to Roma for the latter half. Last summer, Juventus transferred him to Bournemouth, where he had a standout season in England, which ultimately led to his exciting transfer to Real Madrid. In an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, Capello mentioned that Huijsen has demonstrated his talent. “I’m amazed that Juventus overlooked the obvious potential of this player,” Capello commented. “Huijsen didn’t just become skilled overnight.” If he is playing for Real Madrid at the age of 20, then he must be talented enough to play for Juventus. Huijsen is a center-back standing at 1.96 meters tall. He primarily uses his right foot, but is also capable of using his left foot. He has a keen sense for scoring and is capable of taking penalty shots. As a contemporary defender, Huijsen can sometimes step outside his primary position to track strikers in the midfield, aligning with the team’s aggressive playing style similar to what Xabi Alonso employed at Bayer Leverkusen.
