Super Eagles assistant coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, stated that current performance, rather than previous matches, will decide who qualifies for the 2024 African Nations Championship, CHAN. Nigeria is set to face their long-time rivals Ghana in the second leg of the final qualifying round at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo today. Ghana has previously prevented Nigeria from qualifying for this competition twice and won the last encounter between the teams in the qualifiers two years ago. Ogunmodede emphasized that they are not focused on the past and are intent on qualifying for the tournament. “They (Ghana) might be leaning on their historical successes against Nigeria, especially in the CHAN, but we are ignoring that,” he said during a press conference in Uyo. “In our camp, we are not letting past events distract us.” Our aim is to secure the victory that will allow us to qualify for the finals.
