During the plenary session devoted to the examination of the amnesty interpretative law proposal, MP Cheikh Thioro Mbacké questioned the Minister of Justice, Ousmane Diagne, on the need to identify and prosecute those responsible for deaths during the demonstrations between 2021 and 2024. Insisting on the imperative of truth and justice, the President urged the Government to take concrete measures to shed light on these tragedies. “A law will be adopted to facilitate this mission and allow the judiciary to fulfil its role fully”, he declared firmly. While the debate on this law is provoking strong reactions in the public opinion, the intervention of Cheikh Thioro Mbacké emphasises the need for a balance between national reconciliation and justice for the victims. It remains to be seen how the government will respond to these demands for truth and accountability.
Cheikh Thioro Mbacké has affirmed: “All the Senegalese people support the interpretative law proposal. ”
