Children’s surgery: 100 children are treated free of charge for appendicitis and hernia

L’hôpital d’enfants de Diamniadio hosts from 0 October to 30 November a free pediatric surgery camp for 100 children aged 0 to 15 years from disadvantaged families. Indeed, this offer of services concerning pediatric hernia and appendicitis surgery has been made possible by a partnership between the Direct Aid Society and the Centre hospitalier pour enfants de Diamniadio. For Mohamed Lamine Hamadi, DG of the NGO Direct Aid Society, this initiative aims to help vulnerable families to access care. “The objective is to help the poor families whose children suffer from diseases requiring surgical interventions, in order to alleviate their suffering”, he said, while recalling his satisfaction with the partnership with the Children’s Hospital of Diamniadio: “We are very satisfied, reason for which we always return, because it is not the first time that we have been in this situation. We are organizing a pediatric surgery camp”. The Director of the Centre hospitalier national pour enfants de Diamniadio, Ouleymatou Khadija Diagne, appreciated this partnership with the Kuwaiti humanitarian NGO, Direct Aid Society, for its fair value. “This partnership is of paramount importance for us, it is a relief for the hospital because the targets are vulnerable targets”, she declared, recalling that 100 children suffering from appendicitis and hernia have been taken care of by the NGO. This, according to her, constitutes a relief for the hospital insofar as the management of these emergencies in the health structures poses a real problem, especially in terms of financing and recovery: “this NGO comes in appointment to relieve the hospital in terms of management especially for the social cases”, she acknowledged before adding: “we have a budget of the service The social dimension is very insufficient. So, if we see a partner who comes to reinforce this budget, that does not relieve the hospital. Direct Aid is with us since 2019, they have had to take care of more than 789 children and they have had to inject a hundred million CFA francs in our budget.
