The City of Ekurhuleni partners with SISCO and the National Library of South Africa to provide residents with valuable skills in the technology sector.

The City of Ekurhuleni is offering its residents a unique opportunity to gain internationally recognised certifications in information technology (IT) through free online courses.

The initiative aims to equip locals with vital skills in a rapidly evolving field, with a special focus on artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, and more.

Applications for the programme are now open and will close on March 15 with the programme starting on March 31.

The multi-course programme is being presented by Computer Information Systems Company (SISCO), in collaboration with the City of Ekurhuleni and the National Library of South Africa.

Speaking on the initiative, city’s spokesperson Zweli Dlamini highlighted the relevance of the courses in today’s fast-paced technological world.

“The programme is not only designed to help residents gain certificates, but also valuable knowledge in IT, especially now that artificial intelligence is becoming our way of life,” Zweli said.

Courses offered

• The following foundational IT courses are available as part of the programme:

• Introduction to Digital Literacy

• Introduction to Computer Hardware and Operating Systems

• Introduction to Cybersecurity

• Introduction to Networking

• Introduction to Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Each course is designed to provide participants with essential skills and certifications that can boost their career prospects in the tech sector.

Who can apply?

Ekurhuleni residents who meet the following criteria are eligible to apply:

• Must be a resident of Ekurhuleni, with proof of residence dated no more than three months ago.

• Must have a Grade 12 certificate.

• Must not hold a formal IT or related qualification.

Priority will be given to unemployed youth, with the aim of fostering economic opportunities and bridging theskills gap in the local community.
