The last French military installations in Senegal were officially closed on Thursday 17 July, with the closure of the Ouakam site. A ceremony was organized on site to mark this withdrawal, which ended several decades of French military presence in the country. However, this decision is not unanimous. Le journaliste et patron de presse Madiambal Diagne has expressed his disagreement on the social network X (formerly Twitter), calling this closure a “historic error”.
