The observation was made on the spot by the Secretary of State for Culture, Creative Industries and Historical Heritage, Bakary Sarr. ‘It is necessary to take urgent measures to save this emblematic island’, he declared after his working visit. ‘This, he explained, is part of the instructions given by President Diomaye Faye, inviting the Ministry of Culture to assess the state of historic sites such as Gorée and Karabane.’
