Contribution: From very far I see the smile of a mother (by Dr. Ismaila Diallo)

Le Pr Diomaye has made a gesture of remarkable symbolic significance by giving his daughter the name of the mother of Ousmane Sonko. By this act, he pays a vibrant tribute to all the women – mothers, sisters, wives and daughters – who, at the cost of immeasurable sacrifices, have accompanied the long journey of the Pastef Party fighters. These women have endured the pain of repression, humiliation, the injustices of imprisonment, and, for some, the bitter loss of a son, a brother or a relative in this struggle for freedom and dignity. This gesture goes beyond the simple personal framework to become a universal symbol of recognition towards these silent pillars of society, often relegated in the shadows, but essential to any struggle for a better future.. This choice of name is a way of burying in the collective memory the courage and resilience of these women, to remind them that they are not alone, and that their sacrifices will never be forgotten. Through this gesture, Prof. Diomaye calls for solidarity, unity, and above all respect towards those who carry, in pain and hope, the struggles of their people.
