A Federal High Court in Jigawa on Thursday heard via Zoom, the case involving the alleged abduction of teenager Walida Abdulhadi and adjourned it to April 28, 2026, for judgment.
Recall that the case follows the allegation that a Department of State Security operative, Ifeanyi Onyewuenyi, abducted and sexually abused the girl, a resident of Hadejia Local Government Area of the state in 2023.
At the virtual sitting, defence counsel, Abdulmalik Sani, requested more time to file a counter affidavit, citing the need to gather additional information.
However, the prosecuting counsel, Kabir Adamu, opposed the application, insisting he was ready to proceed, urging the court to move forward.
The prosecution is seeking the enforcement of an earlier order by a Hadejia Magistrate Court, which directed the DSS to release the victim unconditionally to her parents and produce the suspect for police investigation. However, the DSS challenged the order at the Federal High Court.
Adamu argued that the DSS’ involvement as an interested party could obstruct justice and compromise a fair investigation, urging the court to ensure the suspect is handed over to the police.
He emphasised that the primary concern remains the safety of the victim and her reunification with her family, expressing confidence that justice would be served.
After listening to both sides, the trial judge, Justice Hassan Dikko, fixed April 28 for judgment
