The Intersyndicale des travailleurs du Crous du Sine-Saloum is sounding the alarm in the face of a mass layoff plan for 328 permanent staff. This controversial plan, contained in an internal document, is to be examined on Tuesday 14 January 2025 at a decisive meeting of the board of directors. According to them, this project, presented as a response to economic difficulties, directly threatens the survival of hundreds of families and risks aggravating the social crisis in the region. “This plan of drastic reduction of the workforce constitutes a veritable declaration of war against the rights of the workers”, affirms a spokesman of the intersyndicale. In view of the urgency of the situation, the Intersyndicale has addressed an urgent request to the highest authorities of the country: the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister, as well as the Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation. The workers appeal to the decision-makers to intervene to block what they describe as a “nightmare scenario”. “The authorities must take their responsibilities to avoid an unprecedented human and social catastrophe”, they insisted. Far from resigning, the unions promise strong action if no solution is found to preserve jobs.
