The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced plans to auction more than 14,000 litres of seized petrol in Cross River State as part of efforts to curb smuggling and ensure the products are put to proper use.
Customs officials disclosed that the fuel, intercepted during a series of anti smuggling operations, was confiscated along major border routes notorious for illegal petroleum trafficking.
The seizures were carried out under intensified surveillance aimed at safeguarding the nationās economy and preventing the diversion of subsidised fuel to neighbouring countries.
According to the NCS, āthe decision to auction the petrol follows standard procedures, allowing the public to purchase the products at regulated prices while discouraging further smuggling activitiesā.
The agency reassured Nigerians of its commitment to sustaining crackdowns on economic sabotage, especially in border communities and also warned smugglers to desist from illegal dealings, stressing that anyone caught would face the full consequences of the law.
