Cyberattack in Dakar: two young hackers from Senegal arrested for embezzling more than 3 million FCFA

Two young Senegalese men aged 24 and 26 have been arrested for their alleged involvement in a computer hacking case targeting a sports betting company established in Dakar. According to information reported by L’Observateur, the suspects managed to bypass the firewall of the company’s internal platform, stealing an amount of 3 094 000 CFA francs. The embezzlement of funds would have been effected via transfers to two Wave accounts associated with an individual identified as Khadim Sall. The case was initiated following a complaint lodged by Madeleine Mendez, responsible for customer service at Tayla Stech Bewinner. This alerted the Division de la cybersécurité (Dic), which immediately opened an investigation. Thanks to a careful analysis of the numerical identifiers used and the flow of transactions, the investigators were able to trace the alleged authors. Khadim Sall was located and arrested at Thiaroye Gare, while his alleged accomplice, Béthio Diom, was arrested at Gueule Tapée. During the investigations, the police seized several elements of evidence, including telephone numbers linked to the accounts used, traceable transaction histories and the confessions of one of the suspects.
