Springs SAPS Family Violence Child Protection Services (FCS) and Sexual Offences Unit’s detective, Sergeant Siyabonga Radebe, has been commended by the Ekurhuleni District commissioner, Major General Anna Sithole, for being instrumental in the imprisonment of rapist Prince Maseko (25).
Maseko was sentenced to eight years for the sexual assault of a 20-year-old woman on September 10, 2022.
Ekurhuleni SAPS spokesperson Captain Neldah Sekgobela details the event.
“The female was attending a political party function in Duduza with other comrades from Katlehong. Among the comrades was the accused. After the function, the accused told the complainant that he loved her, but the complainant rejected his proposal.”
The woman went to the bathroom to relieve herself only to be confronted by Maseko before she could exit the bathroom.
“He remarked that he is not the type of guy who gets rejected. He instructed her to remove her clothes, threatening to hurt her if she were to scream.
“He then raped her inside the toilet. After the rape, he left her there.”
She reported the matter to some of her comrades and ended up at Duduza SAPS, where she reported her case. The accused was arrested the same day.
The docket was assigned to Radebe who thoroughly investigated the docket and provided all the evidence in court until the accused was sentenced at Nigel Magistrate’s Court on January 14.
Sithole welcomed the sentencing and applauded the investigating officer for the excellent work in making sure that offenders are brought to book.
