The Minister for Infrastructure, Land Transport and Open Skies, Déthié Fall, has recently unveiled a series of structural projects to modernise the Senegalese transport network. At the heart of these announcements is the relaunch of the Dakar-Tambacounda railway line, a flagship project aimed at boosting the economy and unlocking the country’s interior regions. In a speech to the Conseil national du patronat in Dakar, Déthié Fall called on companies and investors to accelerate the construction of these projects. “The Ministry of Infrastructure is counting heavily on you to ensure that all the projects can be completed, and that those already begun are completed quickly”, he said, stressing the urgency of completing “all the projects included in the vision of the Head of State and the Prime Minister”. The Dakar-Tambacounda railway line, which is classified as one of the “presidential emergencies”, is 21 kilometres long. This project, called the “Dakar-Tamba fast track”, envisages the construction of a new standard two-lane highway capable of supporting an axle load of 2280.5 tonnes. It also includes 194 kilometres of mining, industrial and port interconnections, guaranteeing its economic viability. A Canadian offer, valued at 1 965 billion CFA francs (approximately 3 billion euros), was presented to finance and implement this project.
