Previous President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has reiterated his administration’s belief that the COVID-19 crisis and the financial turmoil it sparked is the reason for their damage in the 2024 elections.
Akufo-Addo, who spoke at the start of a book for the previous Nigerian head of state, General Ibrahim Babginda, echoed the worn-out claim that Ghanaians have been utterly consumed by COVID-19, which caused the nation’s economic crisis.
According to him, the financial crisis that COVID caused led to demonstrations against his administration, which made his government unhappy, and ultimately, led to their lost in the 2024 elections.

But, users who reacted to his state disagreed, noting that Ghana’s troubles were caused by the NPP’s personal selfishness and fraud.
” Besides him being reckless and greatly dishonest, he fails to get accountability. Did” financial” problems produce the$ 58mill money hole? Did the” economic” crises cause the over$ 100mill SML scandal? Did the” economical” problems cause the$ 12mill non-existent pualugu dam? He really stfu”, one unhappy fan wrote.
Another said:” He should blame himself, his mismanagement and corruption brought about the crisis … Everything and everybody else is the problem and not themselves”,
The NPP presided over one of Ghana’s worst markets throughout their tenure in office. The cost of living was skyrocketing, and some Ghanais were plunged into poverty.
Despite the hardships, the authorities refused to take any role, blaming everyone on COVID-19 and the Russian-Ukraine battle. Citizens responded by handing them the largest electoral defeat in the 4th Republic’s story.
