Dikko: The NSC Will Focus on the Welfare of Athletes

The National Sports Commission (NSC) will implement policies that prioritize the well-being of athletes. NSC Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko provided this assurance during a courtesy visit from a delegation of the Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria (PFAN). The delegation was headed by its President and former Nigerian international, Tijani Babangida, and included Secretary-General Edema Fuludu, as well as members Clement Temile, Magaji Alhassan Boss, and Mrs. Rotimi Michaels… Dikko emphasized the Commission’s initiatives, aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive, to enhance the circumstances of Nigerian athletes. He stated, “What I say to one, I say to all.” You are here as representatives of Nigerian football players, but I will address the needs of all Nigerian athletes in every sport. This administration will not play with their welfare. We are currently putting into action plans that align with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to focus on the well-being of athletes, both former and current, and to use sports as a means for fostering national unity, empowering youth, and driving economic growth. The Chairman highlighted the need for solidarity within the players’ union, pointing out that individual interests should not detract from the common goal of supporting the welfare and development of Nigerian football players and athletes overall. “Since 2003, Tijani Babangida knows I have been striving to implement a pension scheme for professional footballers and athletes in Nigeria, which continues to be a vital part of the current NSC agenda.”
