President Bassirou Diomaye Faye was questioned by France 24 on the possibility of prosecution of former President Macky Sall, after the revelation of the hidden debt and the investigations already initiated against some ministers of the old regime. The Head of State has chosen prudence while recalling the principles of the rule of law. “Public order and civil peace rest on equitably distributed justice. I always make the difference between se faire justice et rendre la justice”, he said. It has insisted on the respect of the presumption of innocence, a free defence and a fair trial for every citizen, underlining that only the judiciary, in a calm and independent manner, can rule on the basis of material evidence. The response of the President of the Republic leaves the door open to judicial proceedings while affirming that nothing will be done in haste or in the logic of settling accounts.
