The President of the Republic of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, will visit Japan from 18 to 26 August 2025 for an official visit of high level. According to a communiqué of the Presidency, this visit is aimed at “strengthening the strategic partnership between Senegal and Japan, based on shared values”. During his stay, the Head of State will participate in the 9th Tokyo International Conference on the Development of Africa (TICAD 9), a major rendezvous of the Japanese-African partnership. This edition, placed “under the sign of cooperation for a sustainable and inclusive development”, will allow African and Japanese leaders to discuss ways and means to accelerate growth and shared prosperity. In addition to TICAD, President Faye will also participate in the Journée du Sénégal at the Osaka Kansai 2025 World Expo. This event will constitute, according to the Presidency, “an exceptional showcase to present the Vision of Senegal 2050 and the opportunities of our country”, particularly in the fields of investment, innovation and culture. This diplomatic mission is of particular importance to Dakar. It aims to consolidate economic, political and cultural relations with Japan, while enhancing the international visibility of Senegal’s strategic projects. The official communiqué also recalls that this visit “is part of the process of strengthening the strategic partnership between Senegal and Japan”, thus confirming the will of the Head of State to place the country at the heart of international exchanges.
