LeBlanc ran for Democratic leader in 2008, but withdrew soon after, throwing his aid behind Michael Ignatieff, who led the Democrats to their worst-ever achievement in the 2011 vote. Following Ignatieff’s departure in 2012, LeBlanc was seen as a possible party chief. Nevertheless, he supported Trudeau’s charge to lead the party next.
