LeBlanc ran for Democratic leader in 2008, but withdrew soon after, throwing his aid behind Michael Ignatieff, who led the Democrats to their worst-ever achievement in the 2011 vote. Following Ignatieff’s departure in 2012, LeBlanc was seen as a possible party chief. Nevertheless, he supported Trudeau’s charge to lead the party next. He was appointed by Trudeau as the leader of the government in the House of Commons in 2015. LeBlanc has held eight different portfolio throughout his tenure in the Trudeau government, with his most recent one being minister of finance.
