A national security expert, Charles Omole, says the current Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Olatunji Disu, should not be singled out for Senate clearance.
Omole stated this on Wednesday while fielding questions in an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’ monitored by DAILY POST.
He said that no IGP in the past has been gone through Senate clearance, adding that if the lawmakers want, they can include it in the law next time.
“Well, the point is they should not single out the current IGP. All our IGPs in the past, none had to go for Senate clearance.
“But the key thing really about the IG and the Police Act is that in the Police Act, the very first function of the IGP is to produce a national policing plan to be submitted before the end of every financial year.
“The truth is that there is no IG that has ever done that,” he said.
