At least 27 finalist students were unable to participate in the Examen d’État 2025 in the centre of Mubumbano, Walungu territory, in South Kivu, due to the persistent insecurity linked to armed violence in the east of the DRC, particularly to clashes involving M23 rebels, according to Radio Okapi. The information was confirmed by the provincial deputy Béatrice Nanvono, who stated that the majority of these students are from displaced families, forced to flee their places of origin. It has nevertheless welcomed the smooth running of the first day of races, marked by the absence of major incidents in the territory (RDC). “Of the 296 pupils attending the Mubumbano centre, only 269 actually took part in the examination, the other 27 having dropped out during the school year because of insecurity”, she said. Despite this bitter observation, the tests were held well in other Walungu localities, including Mulezi Wabana High School, Kamangala High School, Ciherano and in the parishes of Mulamba and Burhale. For its part, the provincial Chief Inspector of the EPST South Kivu 1 has indicated that 2 986 finalist candidates from the schools of Bukavu, Idjwi, Kalehe, Kabare and Walungu were unable to pass the preliminary tests of the State Examination this year. A situation that highlights the direct impact of insecurity on the education system, depriving many young people of their right to education.
