Mthatha – ALS Paramedics report that they are on the scene of a horrific head-on collision along the R61 Nqeleni, near Mthatha in the Eastern Cape.
In the collision that occurred earlier on Monday, 15 December 2025, both vehicles, one of them a minibus taxi, burst into flames on impact.

Meanwhile, Department of Transport spokesperson Collen Msibi said a mid-festive season preliminary road safety report was expected to be made public on Friday, 19 December 2025.
Msibi said the report will be released at a media briefing scheduled to take place along the R102, opposite the N2 weighbridge, Somerset West, Cape Town, Western Cape.
Transport Minister Barbara Creecy and Deputy Minister Mkhuleko Hlengwa will announce mid-festive season road safety details and release the report.
Joining them will be the Minister of Mobility in the Western Cape, Isaac Sileku, along with MECs of Transport, Roads, and Community Safety from other provinces.
