Following the presentation of the economic and social recovery plan on Friday 1 August, the President of the National Assembly, El Malick Ndiaye, congratulated the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, and the Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko, and all their teams on the preparation and presentation of the PRES. The following is the full text of the declaration of the President of the National Assembly: “I extend my warmest congratulations to the President of the Republic, His Excellency Mr Bassirou Diomaye Faye, and to the Prime Minister, Mr Ousmane Sonko, and to all their teams, for the elaboration and presentation, on Friday 1 August, of the plan for economic and social recovery. This remarkable work, at once rigorous, ambitious and deeply rooted in the aspirations of the Senegalese people, bears witness to a clear and coherent vision to bring our country out of the economic impasses inherited from the past. It opens a new era of governance based on sovereignty, social justice and the valorisation of our own resources. As President of the National Assembly, I reaffirm the total commitment of our institution to accompany this plan in all its dimensions: legislative reforms, control of government action, and rigorous monitoring and evaluation of public policies. It is in this dynamic that we have initiated several reforms, notably that of the internal regulation, and that we are organising, from 4 to 8 August in Saly, a parliamentary retreat devoted to strengthening the capacity of Members on the new economic, social and budgetary issues. As I stressed at the close of the ordinary session, there will be no “parliamentary holidays” this year. The nation expects from us seriousness, constancy and results. Together, we must build a sovereign, just and prosperous Senegal. And the National Assembly will play its full role in this historic transformation”.
