Economic recovery: The government prepares an ambitious plan after the alarming findings of the Court of Auditors

The Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko, presented, in the Council of Ministers, the main lines of the government plan for the economic recovery of Senegal. This announcement comes in a context marked by the worrying revelations of the latest audit report of public finances published by the Court of Auditors. In the face of these findings, which he considered alarming, the Head of Government stressed the urgency of restoring confidence, rationalizing public spending and putting the national economy back on a sound footing. It also informed the Council that a comprehensive economic recovery plan had been drawn up and would be submitted to the public and to the technical and financial partners in the coming days. A communication agenda is being finalised to enable a wide dissemination of the Government’s chosen orientations, envisaged reforms and priorities for action. This plan should incorporate measures of budgetary governance, consolidation of public finances, revival of productive investment and promotion of employment. The Government thus shows its willingness to break with the practices which have led to the present imbalances and to lay the foundations for a new economic departure which is fairer, more transparent and more durable.
