
Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has assented to the 2026 Appropriation bill of N939 billion passed by the State House of Assembly.
DAILY POST reports that the budget tagged ‘Budget of Hope and Growth’ was presented to the House by the governor on December 17, 2025, and passed by the House on Tuesday, December 23, 2025.
The House passed the total amount of the budget as presented by Okpebholo.
Presenting the budget to the governor for signing, Blessing Agbebaku, the Speaker of the House, said important sectors of the economy benefitted from the budget.
Agbebaku listed some of the sectors to include agriculture and works. He described food and infrastructure as two critical sectors that the people of the state will greatly benefit from.
He said, “History has been made by this administration as you are hungry to develop Edo State. Your administration is building the first and second flyover bridge in Edo State and you will be remembered by the people because these are landmark projects.
“The governor is hungry to develop Edo State to enable Edo people live a comfortable and better life. This budget will perform 100 per cent and Edo people will see what you do with the funds we appropriate for you.
“The money appropriated for you in the last one year is well spent and Edo people are better for it. We are presenting the year 2026 approved appropriation bill for your ascent.”
The Speaker appreciated the governor for his developmental strides which he noted has positively transformed the state while the people are benefiting from his practical governance style.
Shortly after signing the budget into law, Governor Monday Okpebholo commended the state lawmakers for the quick passage of the budget.
“Let me thank members of the Edo state house of Assembly and the speaker for doing a good Job. I want to thank you for being proactive towards this budget, it was quick and the members did a good Job. I believe this budget of Hope and growth will move Edo State to a greater height,” he added.
DAILY POST recalls that the 2026 budget has the sum of N637 billion representing 68 percent as capital expenditure while N302 billion representing 32 percent is for current expenditure.
The 2026 budget estimate is N334.774 billion higher than the 2025 budget of N605 billion presented in December 10, 2024 by the governor.
Okpebholo said the budget would be funded through Internally Generated Revenue of N160 billion, Federal Account Allocation Committee, FAAC, funds of N480 billion, capital receipts and grants of N153 billion, public-private partnerships of N146 billion and other revenue windows available to the state.
The sectoral breakdown of allocations indicated that the economic sector has the lion share of N614.2 billion, followed by the administration sector with N157.7billion, and social sector, N148.9 billion.
