Eight months following a car accident, Antonio departs from West Ham as a free agent.

West Ham has announced that Michael Antonio will depart from the club this summer as a free agent. The Jamaican international has been sidelined since a serious car crash in December that resulted in a broken leg. He has been without a contract since late June, and head coach Graham Potter stated this week that he is not included in the plans for the upcoming season. Nevertheless, in a statement released on Thursday, the Hammers acknowledged Antonio’s contributions to the team and pledged to continue supporting him through his rehabilitation efforts. “Michail will forever be a cherished and esteemed part of the West Ham United community,” the club stated. “Since December, the Club has been committed to providing support for his rehabilitation, including access to training, facilities, and medical assistance if required. Discussions are ongoing regarding his potential future role within the Club, potentially allowing others to gain from his experience and leadership. He will always have a unique significance in our 130-year legacy. Everyone at West Ham United expresses heartfelt gratitude to Michail for his exceptional and devoted service in a Claret and Blue jersey over the past decade.” Additional acknowledgment of his outstanding contributions will be showcased through Club platforms in the days and weeks ahead.
