
The mayor of Ekurhuleni, Nkosindiphile Xhakaza, met with his Chinese counterpart, Ma Yujun, at Ekurhuleni’s mayoral parlour.
Yujun is the mayor of Shijiazhuang, the most populous city of China’s Hebei Province.
During the discussions, Xhakaza mentioned the importance of Ekurhuleni and Shijiazhuang in sharing common goals for successful development in both cities.
The four-day visit aims to align strategic initiatives in the departments of health, economic development, finance, and ICT in both cities.
The cities committed to collaborative programmes to tackle common health challenges, technology exchanges, and capacity building for healthcare professionals.

They made economic development commitments based on establishing trade agreements, promoting investment opportunities, and organising business delegations for potential partnerships.
For finance, commitments included developing frameworks for financial cooperation, sharing knowledge about financial management, and capacity building for improved governance.
The cities also committed to advancing smart city initiatives, enhancing cyber security, and promoting digital inclusion through increased literacy and access to technology, using the ICT sector.
“This session sets the foundation for a stronger, more connected future between the cities,” said Xhakaza.
Yujun expressed his eagerness to collaborate and share ideas with Ekurhuleni.
