President William Ruto’s assurance to acquire a chapati-making machine that can churn out one million chapatis daily for Nairobi County’s school feeding program has led to him being affectionately nicknamed “El Chapo”. His latest quirky promise, involving a machine capable of producing such a vast quantity of flatbreads, has once again amused the nation. In reality, no such chapati-making machine exists anywhere in the world, which has contributed to his playful new moniker. The name is a playful reference to the notorious Mexican drug lord Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán Loera, while also incorporating the Swahili word “chapo”, which is a term of endearment for delicious pancakes. President Ruto announced this at St. Teresa Girls Secondary School in Mathare during his developmental tour of Nairobi, prompted by Governor Johnson Sakaja’s request for help in acquiring the machine. Sakaja clarified that the machine will be utilized for making chapatis, which the County intends to include in its “Dishi Na County” school feeding initiative. It is an AI-powered chapati-making machine. The Governor, always full of flair, asked the President to assist in obtaining this remarkable piece of equipment to boost the “Dishi Na County” program. It seems the students had taken a liking to chapatis – and who can really fault them for that? These delightful golden discs are an ideal addition to any dining experience. President Ruto enthusiastically accepted the suggestion, allowing Governor Sakaja to set off on a quest to locate this remarkable feat of culinary innovation. “I have decided to purchase a chapati-making machine,” he announced to the enthusiastic students. “Governor, your task now is to locate where to purchase it.”
