The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has condemned the killing of seven citizens at a mining site in Wat, Kuru District of Jos South Local Government Area, Plateau State.
This was contained in a press statement issued on Friday, signed by Choji Felix Dalyop, Plateau State PDP Publicity Secretary.
The party described the incident, which occurred on Wednesday, January 21, as a “senseless and tragic act” carried out by those it described as “enemies of the state”.
The PDP stated that the killings highlight a deepening security crisis and an apparent failure of government to protect lives and property.
The party held government authorities accountable, arguing that repeated attacks and loss of lives have continued to erode public confidence and threaten democratic stability in Plateau State, often referred to as the “Home of Peace and Tourism”.
It cited Section 14(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which places the security and welfare of citizens as the primary purpose of government.
Referencing a 2025 fact-finding committee set up by Governor Caleb Mutfwang, the PDP noted that attackers reportedly came from neighbouring states.
PDP demanded a transparent investigation into the killings, swift prosecution of perpetrators, and a clear, actionable security plan to address the root causes of violence.
It stressed that condemnation without concrete action would no longer suffice.
The party expressed solidarity with the victims’ families and urged national and international stakeholders to closely monitor the security and human rights situation in Plateau State.
