
The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Emomotimi Guwor on Wednesday said the people of the Niger Delta region must ensure that international oil companies and others operating in their land comply with the International Organization Standards, IOS and Petroleum Industry Act, PIA, if they truly want to safeguard their natural resources.
The Speaker gave the charge at the 2nd edition of the Ijaw Publishers Forum held in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area.
The theme of the conference is,”Safeguarding Niger Delta’s Natural Resources for Future Generations”.
Guwor who was represented by a former for Oil & Gas, Chief Emma Amgbaduba, said, “if you relent, you get crisis and the crisis will not allow you to develop.”
He added that the people must also Police their environment just he commended TANTITA Security Services Nigeria Limited,TSSNL for helping to curb oil theft and protect the Niger Delta environment.
Guwor further said the people must train the right subjects to properly, live peacefully with their communities to fit into the future and attract rapid development to their lands.
According to him, “We must live peacefully with our communities. But we will not do that with somebody telling our stories. We need to tell our stories ourselves.”
Guwor commended the leadership of the Ijaw Publishers Forum bracing up in the Niger Delta struggle and telling their own story the way they want it.
