Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand is worried about how close Manchester City have come to Arsenal in the Premier League title race.
The Englishman is also concerned about the Gunners’ injury woes as they chase a long-awaited title under Mikel Arteta.
Arsenal, who were tipped to claim the title this time around after years of disappointment, have dropped points in three of their last five games. They drew 2-2 with Sunderland, 1-1 with ten-man Chelsea, and lost 2-1 to Aston Villa in their most recent matches.
At present, the Gunners’ lead at the top of the table has been reduced to just two points ahead of Manchester City.
Although Ferdinand, who won the Premier League title six times with Manchester United, still believes it will be Arsenal’s season, he is concerned about how the Gunners are losing their grip on the title despite being ‘bang average this season’.
“Arsenal are only two points above Man City, who have been bang average this season, and three above Aston Villa,” Ferdinand said on his YouTube channel.
“Arsenal fans are so up and down, it’s unbelievable. I still think Arsenal will win the league. I do.
“The injuries are killing Arsenal but I still think they win the title. But I think they get over the line and it could be the start of something special for that team.”
