EPL: Rooney, Alan Shearer name signings Chelsea need to compete for title 

Former England strikers, Wayne Rooney and Alan Shearer have named the signings Chelsea need to compete for the Premier League title next season.

The duo spoke on Match of the Day about the areas Chelsea need to strengthen in the upcoming summer transfer window to challenge for the title next season.

This follows Chelsea’s Premier League away 3-0 defeat to Everton on Saturday.

Shearer believes Chelsea needs both a goalkeeper and a centre-back.

Rooney, on his part, added that the Blues need a top striker as well to help them challenge for the Premier League title.

“Chelsea have not got a top-class goalkeeper, they have not got a top-class centre-half, despite the money they have spent,” Shearer said.

Rooney then added: “I still think the forwards as well.

“I know Joao Pedro has done well, but I think if you are going to challenge for the big trophies, you need that centre forward who is going to inspire you.”

The defeat to Everton leaves Chelsea in sixth position on the Premier League table and a point behind fifth-placed Liverpool.
