EPL: Very smart – Carrick singles out Man United star after 2-0 win over Man City

Manchester United interim manager, Michael Carrick, has praised the team’s captain, Bruno Fernandes, for his display in their 2-0 victory against their local rivals, Manchester City, on Saturday.

Fernandes played an amazing game and was the main reason why Manchester United did so well.

The 31-year-old moved into a better position in Carrick’s 4-2-3-1 formation and finished his great performance by assisting Bryan Mbeumo to score United’s first goal.

After the game, Carrick said the Portuguese midfielder played a ‘fantastic’ game and talked about how well he defended along with Mbeumo.

“I’ve talked to Bruno, and I’ve known him for a long time. I thought again that he was really good today,” he told reporters.

“The way he plays his role, he’s really smart, and he occupies important areas on the field. He had a big responsibility for discipline, and Bryan [Mbeumo] also helped out defensively to keep the team safe from problems coming from the middle of the field.

“It wasn’t all just fun and positive up to that point, but he just has a lot of talent. He can adjust well, and when he plays in that role, he’s a major danger and he was the key player.”

Fernandes came back from a hamstring injury earlier this month, getting plenty of playing time against Burnley and taking part in the following games.

Since coming back to play, Fernandes has given at least one assist in every game he’s been in so far, which is three games total.

So far this season, he has managed to score five goals and set up ten more for his teammates in 21 games played in all competitions.

He also tops the league in assists, with nine to his name.
