EPL: ‘You think you’re Messi, Ronaldo, this is Liverpool’ – Collymore slams Mohamed Salah

Former Liverpool striker and pundit, Stan Collymore has slammed the club’s forward, Mohamed Salah, saying the Egyptian has ‘tricked himself’ into believing he belongs in the same ‘untouchable status’ as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

This was after the Egyptian forward granted an explosive post-match interview after the Reds 3-3 draw with Leeds United over the weekend.

Salah is now being dropped on the bench by manager, Arne Slot.

In the last three games, the forward has started from the bench.

He was even not called upon in the last two games and this has really frustrated the player.

Salah told journalists that the club he has sacrificed everything for, have thrown him under the bus.

Collymore argued that despite the huge achievements made by Salah’s at Anfield, he cannot equate himself to the likes of Messi and Ronaldo.

“…If you ask 99.9% of players if they’d accept 2 or 3 games on the bench for not hitting levels, all will say yes,” he wrote on X.

“Only in the madness of 2025 modern football would the cult of personalities not only question a reasonable conclusion of ‘you’re not playing well, here’s a spell on the bench’, but Mo maybe has almost tricked himself onto elevating himself to the untouchable status of Messi or Ronaldo, players who could, if they chose, literally do and say as they pleased in the last decade.

“Mo isn’t them, and Liverpool as I said, isn’t that club either.”

It is unusual for Mohamed Salah to score just five goals in nineteen matches so far this season.
