A new dimension has emerged in the 2027 political atmosphere in Abia State as the immediate- past Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, formally declared his intention to run for the Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal constituency seat.
The seat is currently occupied by Obi Aguocha of the Labour Party, who has also confirmed his intention to seek a second term.
Orji who is the son of the former Governor of Abia State, Theodore Orji, is also a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress and the City Boy movement.
Declaring his ambition on Friday while addressing his supporters in Umuahia, Orji said his decision to contest for the House of Representatives seat is to provide quality representation to Ikwuano/ Umuahia federal constituency.
“I therefore offer myself once again, not just as an aspirant, but as a voice committed to development and the advancement of our people through quality representation at the National Assembly,” Orji added.
Chinedu Orji is from the Ibeku clan of Umuahia North LGA while Obi Aguocha is from Ohuhu clan also of Umuahia North LGA.
While Orji is counting on his grassroots structure, Aguocha is depending on the popularity of the ruling Labour Party in Abia.
