Dr. Bala Inuwa, the former Managing Director of the Kano State Agricultural Supply Company (KASCO), has accused the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission of breaching a court order by seizing his assets. In an address to reporters on Wednesday, Inuwa claimed that the anti-corruption agency took properties valued in the billions of Naira, including trailers and agricultural machinery, despite a High Court order prohibiting any action against the assets. He referred to a ruling by Justice Aisha Ya’u of the Kano High Court in case number K/M 1563/2024, which prohibited the police and the commission from interfering with his property while awaiting the outcome of a main case. The court deemed the actions of the respondents, such as forcible entry and police involvement, as unconstitutional and a violation of the applicants’ rights under Section 44 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). Inuwa stated that, despite the ruling, the commission continued its actions, leading him to obtain an interim injunction to prevent the agency from acting until the matter is settled. The commission’s chairman, Barrister Muhyi Magaji Rimin Gado, rejected the allegations, claiming that the orders were obtained in default and have since expired. “All the restraining orders were temporary and have lapsed,” he stated. Furthermore, some of the orders were directed only at police officers, who are no longer part of the situation. Rimin Gado stated, “We are currently employing staff from the Kano State Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) based on the authority given by Section 58 of the commission’s laws.”
