Former Nigeria football player Dominic Iorfa stated that he was overlooked by the Super Eagles coaching staff for the 1992 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Senegal due to his transfer to Galatasaray. After spending only one season (1990-1991) at Queens Park Rangers, Iorfa moved to the Turkish club Galatasaray in 1993 but made just seven appearances, scoring two goals. He left Galatasaray in 1992 to join Peterborough United, where he played 60 matches and scored nine goals before leaving in 1994. At that point, I was removed from the national team because people questioned why I would be playing in Turkey, as the Turkish league was considered to be quite poor.” As a result of my transfer to Galatasaray, I was excluded from the Super Eagles team for the 1992 AFCON.
