The Sûreté urbaine du Commissariat central de Dakar has arrested three persons for the following offences: “Faux and use of false documents relating to administrative documents, false in public writing, complicity of these leaders”, according to a communiqué of the National Police. The same source informs that these arrests follow a seizure by the Direction de l’Automatisation des Fichiers (DAF), following the discovery of false birth records used for the establishment of national identity cards for the benefit of foreign nationals. Following the summons, the latter acknowledged the facts and declared that they had obtained the documents against the sum of 75 000 FCFA. The continuation of the investigation allowed the interrogation of the main instigator of the network, domiciled in Niangue. A search of his home led to the seizure of a large number of false administrative documents, including copies of identity cards, extracts of virgin births and Senegalese passports. The three suspects have been placed in custody, and the investigation is continuing with a view to dismantling the entire network and bringing all accomplices to justice.
