
A 57-year-old farmer identified as Saturday Ojewa has been killed and buried in a shallow grave in Edo State.
DAILY POST gathered that the incident occurred at Ewato in Esan South East Local Government Area of the State.
The deceased was reportedly murdered on his way to the farm.
The Edo State Police Command which confirmed the incident said five suspects have been arrested in connection with the killing.
The Public Relations Officer of the Command, ASP Eno Ikoedem, who confirmed the incident said investigation led to the arrest of one Mubarak Marama who conspired with others to commit the crime.
Ikoedem said the suspects would be charged to court.
A source who spoke on condition of anonymity said trouble started when the deceased tried to stop the suspects, who he met in his farm cutting his bamboo without permission.
The source said the deceased ordered them to leave his farm after which they left.
However, the suspects, angered by the farmer’s action, came back the following day, laid ambush and killed him on his way to the farm, and buried him in a shallow grave in the forest.
The source added that a few days later, one of the suspects identified as Mubarak was arrested in connection with the murder.
According to him, the suspect confessed that one Timothy Ogbebor was the mastermind of the murder.
“The confession of Timothy led to the arrest of three other accomplices identified as Julius Bala, Lawrence Gayobi and Victor Monday,” the source disclosed.
